July 31 2012 The last day of July

Today is the last day of July…….it seems unreal that time is going by so quickly!!!  I took this picture because I thought the tree looked really unusual and unique…..what do you think?

When we were walking around the city center in Moscow we saw this restaurant with a “catchy” name and took a picture of it……..also it is cute that the little girl looks like she is peeking in…….

July 30, 2012 More calves......they are sooooooo cute!!!

Today at the dairy I saw the cutest little calf……he is obviously a preemie, not sure how early he came but he is only 3 days old.  Sooooo tiny, look at the size of his head in comparison to my hand…….I really wanted to take him home but Lewis didn’t seem to agree with that thought!!!

Here we go……..
actually I don’t think they were too excited about the trip…….

July 29 2012 Silage pile, haircut and Olympics

First of all, I do not like pictures taken of me........second, I don't like anyone seeing them if they are taken, especially on the blog.......BUT, since I love Lewis so much I agreed to put the following pictures on here.......

Lewis needed to check something at the top of a grass silage pile and asked me to follow him up to the top so that I could say that I have been at the top of a silage pile (since I never have been before)!!
Then he did his testing and went to the bottom to take the "proof" picture!!!

Saturday was hair cut day.......this time we both got our hair cut, same place same person!!!  This was the same lady that cut Lewis' hair last month.  I was very nervous, for one thing she doesn't speak English and our new driver doesn't speak English to translate for us.  (By the way, for the past 2 weeks we have been without Konstantine who got really sick and put in the hospital.  He will be in there for another month, so we are not sure what will happen next) I wanted her to cut about an inch so I figured out what an inch was in cm.  I told her 2.5cm, but then remembered that she probably only understood "cm" and not 2.5......she did a good job.  It does feel more healthy now since it has been 3 months since getting cut. Lewis sat in the chair and took these pictures of me (my own personal Paparazzi)

We have been watching the Olympics this weekend and a really cute commercial comes on several times.  Yesterday I wanted to video it but was unsuccessful.  Today I finally got it, not sure what these kids are saying but they are very cute.  (If you are also on facebook you will have already seen this but it is worth seeing again!!!)

July 28 2012 Not the typical picture posting today

While I am cleaning out some picture files on my computer today I found these interesting optical illusions.  They are not from "Russia" but kind of cool anyway.  So today is a break from Russian pictures and something to make you "think" instead!!!

July 27 2012 Another unexpected moment

Kind of looks like "Petey" the Little Rascal's dog......ok, maybe I'm stretching it a bit!!!

July 26 2012 More pics from the trip

These pictures may be common in Russia, but not so common in the states.  I take pictures that are unusual to us so that we can share them with our blog followers to see what we see.

Elevators are not very common in buildings, at least where we live.  Good to have them in the hotels though, the unusual thing is that the are not very wide.  They do not hold many people especially with luggage which most hotel stayers have with them.  One of the trips up the elevator 2 men came into the elevator with their luggage and we were all four very packed in.  One of these men almost touched the ceiling, we are thinking he was 6' 10".......very tall!!!

One of the elevators shows 8 floors (picture above)......can you see what is different
in this picture of the other elevator......... (besides the fact that it looks like I am knocking Lewis over to get a picture....ha ha!!)

Have you ever seen a "-1" floor in an elevator?

Click on this picture to make it bigger and read some of the items..........different wording than we are used to!!!

Guess where the busiest place at the mall in Moscow was????

July 25, 2012 Fun Pictures

Took this picture while in Moscow, we didn't go in to watch it, but I thought it would be fun for others to see it written in Russian.........

Lewis' new ride.......

July 24, 2012 It was going to happen someday.....

Up to now I have been spared.....everyone else has been hit at least once, but I hadn't...........my luck ran out today, I am officially grossed out!!!

July 23, 2012 Lunch on the Moscow River

We checked out of our hotel this morning and met Yulia.  The driver from work took all of us to the airport to pick up a lady who was coming to do some work from the states.  Then we picked up Dmitry the owner of the company and he took all of us to a very nice restaurant for lunch before making the drive back to Velikiye Luki.........After the salad/soup part of the meal, they served the entree and then they took us for a ride down the river about 30 minutes and then return about 30 minutes.
The place we were eating was chained to the posts until time to take the peaceful ride down the river.....this is a picture of what it looked like..........

Lots of ducks in the water all around us...............

This duck was so funny, we kept saying that it was our tour guide, directing the "boat" where to go........

Lots of pretty scenery along the way........

July 22, 2012 Second day in Moscow

Today we went sightseeing........started the day out with breakfast at the hotel.................

Mapped out our Metro route...............

We made it to Red Square and took several pictures. Most of them we have no idea what they are, but we had a good time!!

Another "wishing place" it was a very busy and popular spot......we both made our wishes and tossed a couple of coins also!!!

People we getting pictures taken with these characters............

We found our way to the Kremlin and took some more pictures of the outside of the buildings there......inside no photography allowed.

Our tickets -

Here we are at the entrance.

Another picture of the entrance and of the huge doors at the entrance........Lewis looked through an opening in the door to show just how big the doors are, .........

Outside of the Kremlin..............

Pretty warm day and people loved this fountain for cooling off......................

Our future Russian home.............
