January 29 Store Window

We saw these in a window of a store in St Petersburg city center.  They were moving and playing music and attracting a lot of attention to people walking on the street including us.

 

January 28 Deep thinker

I caught him deep in thought, and then I caught him out of those thoughts. 

On the way back from this particular dairy we saw this man on a sleigh being pulled by a horse.  Well I missed the horse part because I don’t think he wanted his picture taken. Maybe next time.

January 27 A slight warmer and more snow coming

Forecast, at 12:20 pm it is 1 degree F but feels like -11 degrees F.

 

 

 

The rest of the week looks a little better with lots of snow ahead. The snow doesn’t leave; it just doesn’t snow every day.  But ever since we got here Dec 1^st there has been snow on the ground and we haven’t seen the grass yet.

This is not an actual picture of Velikie Luki, just a picture that the Weather Channel puts up. Notice that even though the sun is setting later and rising earlier we are still only at a little over 8 hrs of daylight hours. But it is changing gradually.

January 22 More snow and frost

Lots of ice and frost and snow.  It is pretty from the inside.  Very cold outside.  Looks very gloomy in some ways and at the same time very pretty.

January 18 Security System

The security system at these dairies is crazy.  I finally got a picture of it so hopefully you get the idea.

You pull up to the dairy and there is this wire that is pulled across (couldn’t get a picture of that).

The guy either comes out or looks through the window or door peephole and then lets off the slack so that the wire goes down and the car can pass over it.  Interesting!!!
